Golf course
Simcoe, Ontario
Set in the quiet township of Renton just outside Simcoe, this 27-hole property is one of the larger public facilities in the Haldimand-Norfolk area. Rene Muylaert laid out the original 18 in 1977, when it opened as the Nanticoke Golf Club, and superintendent Dave Wray added a third nine in 1999 to complete the Red, Blue and Green rotation in 2000. Each nine runs about 3,100 yards to a par of 36, so any of the three 18-hole combinations lands close to 6,200 yards and par 72 — comparable in length and difficulty, which keeps the pairings honest. The ground rolls gently through mature hardwoods that turn spectacular in the fall, and the greens are generous without being flat. A modern clubhouse with a bistro, golf shop and indoor simulators keeps the place busy year-round.
