Quesnel sits in the Cariboo at the confluence of the Fraser and Quesnel rivers, on Highway 97 roughly midway between Williams Lake and Prince George. It grew out of the Cariboo Gold Rush - the restored gold rush town of Barkerville is about 80 km east on Highway 26 - and forestry has been the mainstay since. The Fraser River cuts through the middle of town, crossed downtown by a 1929 pedestrian bridge, and the surrounding plateau is rolling pine and ranchland. Golfers have two options: the 18-hole Quesnel Golf Course, the established club layout, and the nine-hole Richbar Golf & Gardens south of town on Highway 97, known as much for its gardens as its greens.
