Golf course
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
Royal Niagara is a 27-hole Ted Baker design that opened in 2001 on land between the Welland Canal, the Bruce Trail and the Niagara Escarpment, and its holes are routed around industrial-era remnants including an old iron railway bridge and the walls of the original canal. The Escarpment nine is the most vertical of the three: it starts at the base of the escarpment, climbs through the woods to the top, and then works back downhill to the clubhouse, playing par 36 at about 3,533 yards from the black tees. Sculpted fairways, deep bunkering and undulating greens are common to all three nines. Rounds here pair the Escarpment with one of its siblings, the Iron Bridge or the Old Canal nine.
