Golf course
Harrow, Ontario
Billed as Canada's southernmost golf course, Oxley Beach sits on the Lake Erie north shore near Harrow, about half an hour from Windsor and right along the county's wine route. Byron Hatfield laid out the 18-hole, par-54 course in 1963 on fairly level ground that tilts gently toward the lake and adjoining marsh; sandy soil drains fast, big shade trees line the holes and an offshore breeze usually follows you around. At roughly 2,380 yards with sixteen bunkers and a natural pond, it is a short-game course rather than a driver's course, and forward tees on four holes make it welcoming for beginners and juniors. The 13th is the one everyone remembers, played over a pond with marsh down the left and a lone willow guarding the right side.
