Golf course
Petrolia, Ontario
Kingswell Glen sits on the edge of Petrolia, the Lambton County town built on Canada's first oil boom, and the eighteen-hole layout borrows the same varied ground — open prairie-flat stretches on one side, glen and treeline on the other. It plays to a par of 72 and about 6,360 yards from the blue tees, with a good spread of short par threes and reachable par fives that keep the card interesting for a wide range of handicaps. Nothing is tricked up; the challenge comes from shaping tee shots and judging the greens. The recently renovated clubhouse handles tournaments, weddings and everyday food and drink, and a simulator plus an indoor field keep the club busy outside the season. It reads as a community club first, which is exactly the appeal.
