Golf course
Nottawa, Ontario
Spread across more than 250 acres at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment between Collingwood and Devil's Glen, Batteaux Creek opened in 2002 to a Stephen Young design — the same architect behind Waterloo's Grey Silo. Bentgrass fairways roll through natural areas, ponds and wetlands, with generous, true-rolling greens guarded by plenty of sand. Five sets of tees stretch from about 5,300 to 7,000 yards on a par 72, so the course can play as a gentle scenic walk or a genuine championship test depending on where you start. The water and bunkering create constant risk-reward decisions without punishing a sensible, conservative line. The board-and-batten clubhouse sits above one of the ponds with views out to Blue Mountain.
