Golf course
Banff, Alberta
The Stanley Thompson eighteen at the Fairmont Banff Springs is one of the most photographed golf courses in the world, laid out in 1928 along the Bow and Spray rivers beneath Mount Rundle. Thompson routed it to frame the peaks from nearly every tee, and the par-three fourth, the Devil's Cauldron, plays across a glacial lake to a green cut into the mountainside. Elk on the fairways are a routine part of a round here. The alpine season is short, generally late May into early October.
