Golf course
Trail, British Columbia
Birchbank opened in 1962 as the Rossland-Trail Country Club and still plays as a classic Kootenay parkland test, par 72 and 6,584 yards from the tips. The course runs along a bench above the Columbia River between Trail and Castlegar, ringed by the Selkirk and Monashee ranges. Rolling ground and stands of mature birch and conifer squeeze the driving lines, and successive rebuilds have relocated holes, rebuilt greens and added a good deal of bunkering. Long, dry Kootenay summers keep the fairways firm and running well into the fall.
