Bridgewater Country Club

Founded in the mid-1920s as Erie Downs and opened for play in 1927, Bridgewater is one of Stanley Thompson's earlier Ontario designs and still shows his hand in the routing through Fort Erie's mature trees, meandering streams and gently shifting ground. The par-72 layout runs to roughly 6,660 yards and refuses to settle into a pattern — four par 3s, doglegs bending both directions, and greens open enough at the front to accept a running shot or hold a high wedge. Four sets of tees make it playable for most handicaps while the back markers preserve the original test. The course has history behind it too, having hosted the Ontario Open in 1940, won by Sam Snead, and again in 1993.
